Situated in the North Eastern Region of India North East comprises of 8 States (Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura and Sikkim). With a total population of 5 Crores (50 Million) the demand Medical Sector is subsequently high. North East India has seen steady growth both from the Government and Private Sectors. There are over 2000+ Health Centres including Government, Corporate Hospitals, Diagnostic Centres, Clinics and Laboratories etc. North East is ideally positioned to attract medical tourists from South and South East Asian countries. With low cost Medical treatment available, lower labour costs, easier transport by road and air, it can be positioned as a Medical hub for the country.
Routes can be developed to attract tourists from Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar and other South and South East Asian countries to link with various North East states. Besides Assam, states like Manipur & Nagaland has seen a significant rise in the number of doctors in PHCs while Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Tripura have seen a sharp rise in pharmacists over the years. Manipur has become a prominent state in producing a large number of nursing staff. With improved connectivity, better healthcare infrastructure and presence of qualified and trained doctors and nurses, the region holds good potential of becoming the Healthcare hub.
